New shinies! New shinies! :-)

I love how you "bracketed" Moya between a double row of Aeryns and Chianas in "Main Characters", and I'm amazed how, in the "Secondary Character" row you managed to catch the essence of each one in such a small picture.

The Aliens made me laugh, because seeing Staanz among all those women was funny. Ok, Staanz is technically a woman, too, but... you know... :-D

Artist's Choice touched my heart deeply: particularly with 17 - the play of shadow on Xhalax's face is quite dramatic - and with 20: that's Scorpius' mother, right? She looks so... defenceless and innocent...

My eyes thank you very much! :-)

**wild cheers**

Thank you!

I HAD to include Staanz - she's as much of a lady as the rest of them! :P

And yes, 20 is Rylani, Scorpius' mother. I was really taken with that cap and am glad it worked in icon form.

More beautiful eye (icon) candy! Just in time for Xmas too! :)

Number 5 is really striking and so are 7,9 and 10! M'Lee and Natira are beautiful...and the ones of the nurses are an inspired choice!

Lovely, yet again!

These are outstanding :) Your icons are always so beutiful and awesome! Set 1 is so great; my favorite are 4 and 5, I love the crop 4 and Chiana is really great that picture and 5 is so pretty and I love the light! Moya is also very beatiful. I am taking 4!

Set 2 is also awesome! 6 and 7 are my favorite that one!

And I also love set 3! 12 and 15 are amazing :) AC set is so lovely<3 I love everything about it, but I think that number 18 is my favorite.

Awesome job!! :)

OMFG, my comment is actually so long I have to post it in two parts. Apologies!

This is a really good set, and also very unexpected (the style is very different from your last one). This is so cohesive, all the icons support each other making the set more than the sum of its parts - I definitely think these icons work better together than separately. You know, the first thing to come to my mind when I saw these was actually your episode pic spams (which I'm waiting to see more, but no pressure! ^^); they're simple - even minimal - but so far from boring, because they play with contrast, cropping and softness so well. The funny thing is that I too had planned on making a sort of 'back to basics' set this round, but my muse took me to another direction, which I'm now glad of because I seriously wouldn't want to compete with these that directly.

I love that you chose an 'all female' theme, even though it means no Scorpy or Harvey :P It's very you and makes the set (even more) cohesive.

I love the symmetry of the main characters set; centercropped Moya in the center in between two b&w chianas facing towards her, and then there are two Aeryns facing away from the center. My mathematical brain just loves stuff like that, I always appreciate it when people put thought into the icon order too :D They're also wonderful as individual icons too, and #4 is my favorite of all the sets this time. There's something striking about the image choice and what you've done with it. It has such a strong hard contrast, yet it still has a lovely softness, creating a nice contradiction together. It's stunning and I can't stop staring at it. <3
The other Chi is lovely too and #5 is really powerful with that contrast (again). #1 has an amazing crop and softness too (god, this comment is going to be really repetitive. That's the danger when commenting on really cohesive sets. Bear with me).

If Main characters is my favorite set, the next one would be ACs.
The set has a powerful feeling to it - I assume it's intentional that each of these images is so sad. #20 is my favorite, this particular story always touched me so much (obviously, it's Scorpys's backstory...) and her body language says so much. I want to hug her. It's a lovely icon.
My other favorite is #17 for the reasons Nymeria already mentioned; I so would have shyed away from an image like that, with the shadows all over her face, but in your end result the shadows make the icon intead of breaking it. Wow. It's mysterious and odd in a lovely, intriguing way.
I also love #16 because the crop is something I wouldn't have thought of, really creative and original. Also love the almost invisible vertical lines on the left! #18 and #19 are also touching and the muted coloring works on both.

Now I realize I shouldn't have called those two sets my favorites because the other two are so good as well.
#12 is my favorite of the Aliens, because both the crop and the coloring really work for me. Her bone thingies create such lovely shapes around her face, it's just such a great image choice with so much visual interest, and it's cropped PERFECTLY. And the coloring is so warm, love the red. Also love the Linfer one, the crop is wonderful, but also there's something about the (gradient?) background that I love, it looks really shiny. Also what a poignant image choice. I also love the strong reds again with Staanz, and the contrast and the fact that you used her at all! :D I really like the way the cyans in Natira shine and the contrast and crop on Volmae.

OMFG is right...this feedback had my jaw on the floor LOL Thank you SO much...and don't you dare apologize! I am really blown away by your comments, although I feel a little strange because this was the quickest set I've ever made. Not that I didn't do my best, but that I wanted a minimalist look and decided the best way to achieve that was to limit the time and energy spent on each icon, no second guessing, and no reworking. I was worried it would look boring or flat compared to other people's sets, and can't tell you how happy I am that it struck such a chord with you!

I also love that you noticed the arrangement of the icons. When possible I try for symmetry, or some kind of pattern or flow, and it pleases me when someone notices (and I love noticing it in other people's sets!). And I'm also really pleased you noticed my efforts towards making them cohesive, with crops and coloring.

The background on the Linfer icon is the actual background from the cap :) None of these feature any textures, gradients, or brushes except for #4 where I erased the chair leg she was holding and used a semi-transparent brush to blend the background. It's all contrast and lighting :)

...continued...

Let's get to Secondary Characters. My favorites are Grayza and Jool. I don't think I hjave any Grayza icons yet and I must fix this by taking 10. The prettiest thing about Grayza is definitely the way her skin reflects light, and I love how we see this in the icon. Her skin looks so shiny, almost metallic but not in an unnatural way. The contrast is perfection again.
The Jool icon I couldn't NOT like, cause it's the only visibly texturized one here and as you might have noticed, i have a thing for them :) I love how the icon is divided into two parts and the image itself is beyond pretty. That Sikozu icon is so cute and soft and pretty, it has a dreamlike feel to it. Noranti has an interesting crop and I love her expression. The Zhaan one is really nice too, I love how it and #19 are the only real center crops in this set and the image choice is lovely, her smile is so infectious.

I love this set more and more when I look at it longer; the style is so subtle and natural that it needs some time to grow on you, well at least on me cause I've used to icons with tons of colors and textures. (This is also why I waited for a while before commenting, I really wanted to just 'absorb' them for a while, even though they did look pretty on the first viewing too.) I wish I knew how to make icons like this - evrey time I try to go for simple, it looks empty or dull to me, like something's missing, or sometimes they look half-assed, like I did them in a minute. Yet you avoid that look completely and I don't know how, these still look really polished and like there was a lot of thought and work put into them. Any secret tips on that? :D

So anyway, this is an amazing set that I appreciate more the more I look at it, I feel like I haven't compeletely been able to communicate how these icons speak to me, but they do. And I'm starting to feel a little ashamed of my own set now cause it's the usual explosion of color and texture and I feel yours is so much deeper and more 'raw'. This is why I really shouldn't look at anyones work before posting mine :P

Great job again!

I'm glad that Grayza works so well for you! That is the one I was most tempted to redo, only because the expression in her eyes that was visible in the full size cap wasn't clear in the icon size - it kind of looks like her eyes are closed. But I was pleased with the contrast, so I went with it :)

these still look really polished and like there was a lot of thought and work put into them. Any secret tips on that? :D

There was a lot of thought but really not a lot of work with these...I don't really have any secrets ;) For most of these I simply cleaned up the image - generally increased midtones, darkened shadows, increased highlights, then used "reduce noise" to give it a smoother look. Then I played with brightness and contrast...it depends on the cap. For some brightness/contrast works best, for others it's more helpful to go in and darken the shadows/brighten highlights again. Then, for most of them, I applied the "Instant Photo" filter (set on "screen", usually 100%). Maybe that is my secret - I recently discovered it and find that it brightens up the image while not washing it out, and it looks crisper in the end than simply using the "adjust lighting" functions :) Some of them may also have a touch of the "Neutral Tone BW" filter, set to overlay or soft light. Maybe 25%? It depends on the cap. That darkens the shadows quite nicely.

Your set is AMAZING, and made me feel ashamed of how simple this was LOL I will be leaving feedback soon, but I thought it was so wonderful that I snagged one to use on Terra Firma :)

Thank you again for the fantastic feedback!

Hello! I'm sorry, I didn't see this until just now - thank you so much for the message and kind words :) A combination of moving house and poor health kind of knocked the wind out of my creative sails this spring, but I really miss iconning (not to mention seeing everyone else's beautiful work!) and would love to get back into it.

I'm planning on starting with a Chiana set using the themes from round 17, and then sign up for round 19 or 20 (hopefully 19!). I also want to go back and look at and feedback all the icons I've missed :)

Thank you again, and I hope you're well!
