VERTIGO
Jool makes a sound like a baby bird and claps her hands together. “Checkmate,” she says. “Check, check, check.” She bobs in her chair, sustains a note that reverberates across the faded bruises in John’s brain.
He sucks air through his teeth and smiles through the pain. “Nice moves, Princess,” he says, and she preens.
Harvey flickers, jealous, in the corner of his eye.
She’s prettier than you, Harv.
You wound me, John.
John listens to Jool, to the soft clatter of pawns gathered in her hands as she resets the board. She says, “I want to teach you trikion. It’s similar to chess.”
Similar has become a cruel tease; but he smiles again and says, “Sure. We’ll make the next supply run, play in the pod.”
Jool twists a bishop between her fingers and tries to pretend D’Argo and Chiana are not an arn overdue.

Date: 2012-03-20 07:24 pm (UTC)I like Jool here where normally she isn't my favorite character.
I love John here. He just goes with the flow, much like myself., :)
And I like Harvey. How he's jealous where he shouldn't be because he's like a nanobot or something.

Date: 2012-04-16 09:21 am (UTC)Jool is a character I didn't care for very much at first, but she really grew on me. There's something very charming about her, underneath the more annoying traits ;)

Date: 2012-04-23 12:39 am (UTC)and sorry this has taken me so long to get back to. I suck like that sometimes.
Yeah, Chiana and Jool were like that for me. Their character's are kinda more abrasive.
But after a while they do something that endears them to the audience (me here I suppose but it just didn't make sense to say that in the sentence) - I haven't actually seen a lot of episodes with Jool. I kinda skipped around in the later seasons, so I have to figure out where I was and watch in order. I'm a big fan of Season 1.
