We finished S2 last night (EXCELLENT, although I think I liked Peter, White Tulip, Brown Betty, and maybe Northwest Passage better than The Other Side) and I wanted to ask about this "bugs in the blood" thing - my husband has arachnophobia and was getting very nervous at every mention. Do we ever see them? Are they actually spiders? Or are there other spiders in general in S3? He feels like it's a ticking time bomb now that they've mentioned it LOL

I cannot believe it but I am shipping Olivia and Peter. I don't ship like this! I enjoy couples, but I don't find myself wanting to watch for a couple and their scenes, and I'm good whether they get together, stay together, or don't. When they kissed, and she said he belonged with her, I just melted.

And her hair! Can anyone spoil me - does Olivia get her blonde back? I miss it so much already ;) On the plus side, I have hair and coloring very similar to Olivia and have been wanting to do something very similar to Fauxlivia FOREVER but keep chickening out. Now I'm very confident and happy sticking with what I have. The red with bangs is pretty in general, but on her I definitely prefer the blonde!

I LOVE OLIVIA. She's my favorite character (so far I don't like Fauxlivia at all! But I think that's the point ;) But Walter is the best thing about the show. John Noble is incredible, I am enraptured every time he's on screen and I don't think I've ever seen my husband as impressed by an actor. He's just an absolute joy to watch. And his scenes with Leonard Nimoy! Heaven.

Walternate, you're such a cold bastard. I love it.

What's up with the coffee shortage? Did I miss something? We bought S1 and will watch it, but want to devour S3 first.

And argh! The Massive Dynamic lab geek is named Brandon? We've been calling him Tippy and I don't want to stop.

The blonde is back next season.

Olivia is awesome in every way. I agree with you regarding John Noble. Walter is so sweet but he's done such terrible things. Noble makes him sympathetic but not overly so. Does that make sense? I love Walter and Belly. Great friendship.

Yay for shipping Olivia/Peter! I ship them as well.

Is season 3 available for you yet? I think it was a stellar season. Can't think of any clunkers at all.

I'm glad to hear about the blonde! We've seen the first 3 of S3 so far (we're watching with downloads for now, and will buy the season when it comes out) and I am still enjoying it, especially the differences between Walter and Walternate and Olivia and Fauxlivia.

I think Olivia/Peter may be my first real ship...I can't recall another tv couple that made me feel swoony, or one where I was actively hoping they'd kiss!

I agree about Walter and Belly - I hope Belly's not really dead, and will show up again. They're wonderful to watch together.

I swooned over Olivia/Peter as well. Maybe because you just know how tough everything is for Olivia. I adore Olivia.

Do you feel any shippy P/O fics coming on? I read a wonderful fic that took place after the season 2. Not to shippy but very interesting.

How about Fringe icons? Any interest in that? You do great icons, my dear.

Will the new eps be broadcast in your neck of the woods?

I'm sorry this took me so long to respond to! I was really busy with our trip (which was lovely).

I haven't been inspired for fics yet, but I can see it happening some time in the future :) Icons too, once I rip episodes onto my computer :)

We won't get the new episodes here but can download them the day after they air in the US :) We're halfway through S3 now and I'm very excited for S4!

Serendipity...
I just finished my re-watch of "White Tulip" :-)

Thanks to you and your enthusiastic reports I started this re-watch, discovering that I had forgotten much of this incredible season. Which means that when the time comes to start on season 3 I'll be better equipped to deal with it.

Olivia absolutely *rocks*: there is much in her that makes me think about Aeryn - not for reasons I can point my finger at, it's more a subliminal sort of feeling. If I'm making any sense...

But Walter... Ah, Walter is the true star of the show and John Noble is just awesome. Walter Bishop would not be such a great character without him.

I'm so happy you're enjoying the show! :-)

Olivia does remind me of Aeryn - an earlier Aeryn though, pre-DMD...while Fauxlivia is reminding me a bit of post IP Aeryn...I haven't seen much of her yet, but there is a tightness, and a sad kind of control about her. I'm looking forward to learning more about her.

She is a wonderful character in either case, and I love seeing a show with a woman truly in the lead role.

I don't know if you've started on season 3 yet, so I will keep this spoiler free.

does Olivia get her blonde back?
Yes and no. **VEG**
This is as cryptic as I can be without spoiling you.

After the first two episodes of S3 my admiration for Anna Torv as a performer has grown, because she can be two very different persons wearing the same face.
It's all a matter of subtle hints, and one keeps wondering when (if ever) she will make a mistake and burn her cover.

John Noble is doing amazing work with Walter and Walternate: what strikes me, thanks to that performance, is that I can feel pity and sympathy for Walter (who, after all, is the proverbial crazy scientis in so many ways), and absolute loathing for Walternate, who is something of a victim of Walter's choices.

I love this show!

I love this show, too!

I second your admiration for Anna Torv and John Noble. I have no respect for The Emmy people for overlooking these wonderful performances. Especially Anna Torv who was simply amazing this last season.

For what little I know of the Emmys, they practically never take into account sci-fi or fantasy settings, as if there were a taint (sort of) attached to the genre. Which made all the more surprising the deluge of nominations for Game of Thrones this year.

And agreed: both Torv and Noble *should* get a prize for their perfomances.

We're halfway through season 3 now and the blonde returned full-time as soon as I was starting to dig the red. Isn't that always the way? LOL

I am AMAZED by Anna Torv's performance in this season. Fauxlivia is a completely different person - she holds herself differently, her voice seems to come from a different place (it's tighter, if that makes sense). Just awesome. And John Noble continues to impress.

We're very much enjoying S3...I love the pace, and how quickly they discovered the switched Olivias.

Oh yes! and you're right, she is amazing.
The two versions even *move* in a different way: RealOlivia is more sedate, more grounded, while FauxLivia sports this sort of jerky motions (for lack of a better word) that place her in a different behavioral frame.

This season is nothing short of awesome, with some breathless sequences of episodes: I love shows with a prolonged story-arc and this holds my attention in an incredible way.

I'm halfway through too (my last ep. is 3x11) and I plan to go on in a serious manner over the weekend. Something tells me that much more is on the way...

Glad you're enjoying it! *wave*

A further note on Anna Torv's performance: I wonder if you've already seen episode 3x17 - Stowaway.

Not saying anything more for fear of spoiling you, but in this episode she truly went... where no one had gone before!

**tongue-in-cheeck joke** ;-)

WOW

Great! Then we can talk about it.

It will have to wait one more day, we were only up to 15, so we watched that and 16 last night, and will do 17 (and probably 18) tonight. But given the last scene of 16, I can guess who the "Stowaway" is =D

I'm really looking forward to seeing Anna capture Leonard Nimoy's inflections and mannerisms ;)

God, this is such a brilliant show. I am enjoying it so thoroughly, and really SHIPPING for the first time in my life. My husband was laughing at me a few weeks ago, but last night he confessed he's shipping Peter and Olivia too! He says it's because they're not intense like so many tv couples, but very comfortable and realistic with each other. It's enjoyable and pleasant (and I kid you not, I was telling my Peter not to rub my back like that when we watch tv, that it hurt, and 30 seconds later Olivia was telling hers the same thing LOL).

One thing I feel a bit alone in is that I keep hearing, both from the show and fans, that Fauxlivia is the more open one, "she smiles more easily", etc, and that Olivia is the more hurt/guarded/tough/closed off one. I don't see that when I watch them...I see this wonderful warmth and vulnerability in Olivia, clearly present alongside the toughness. Fauxlivia smiles easier, but she also seems extremely fake to me, even in her own world. Saying there's a cruelty about her is too strong, but there's a definite hardness, imo.

That's what I was looking for!
Since this particular cat is out of the spoilers bag (LOL) I can tell you that Anna Torv was simply *awesome*. But you will see (and hear) for yourself. This season placed her at the same outstanding performing levels as Claudia Black, with all the differences between them. What they share is an uncanny, amazing craft.

Re: shipping
I was surprised at myself for how much I liked Peter and Olivia as a couple, since I did not warm too much toward Peter in the first two seasons. However, working alongside Olivia, sharing so much with her, made him... more (now where I heard that phrase...?)

They complete and enhance each other, and I see them quite well as a couple, one that works wonderfully even in the understated tones you defined so well.
And LOL on the back-rub!!!

Re: FauxLivia vs. real Olivia
IMHO the difference between them is due to the different circumstances of their lives: Faux grew up in a dangerous, unstable world, so she *needs* to be harder, more aggressive. Her "easier smile" to me always carries an edge, as if it's forced, as if she were battling her inner "hurt child" - the one that she shares with Real Olivia.

"Our" Olivia battles with her past hurts and the need to close off the rest of the world, as a form of defense, but she's softened by the presence of a loving sister (which Faux lost) and of a loved niece. Yet you will soon see that even Faux is capable of softer feelings.

Wow, someone turn me off before it's too late!! :-D

I loved reading your thoughts!

We finished up S3 this weekend, and you were right, Fauxlivia does get to show a softer side! Although I still don't really like her ;) But I was rooting for her for the first time in the episode where she gave birth, and I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing her and Olivia interact without any memories of Peter, and the rift that creates between them. I would love to see them become allies, if not friends, only to have that relationship strained when Peter is eventually remembered.

Fab ending to the season. As fans of Doctor Who we really appreciated the introduction of the timey-whimey-wibbly-wobbly elements. We were speculating that one of the universes would be destroyed and a 3rd one come into existence, but this solution, with the bridge, is probably far less confusing ;)

John Noble and Anna Torv both deserve Emmys...they are AMAZING.

I think my favorite episode of the season was Subject 13. I'm so happy I'll be able to watch S4 in real time now! Well, almost, we'll get it the day after it airs in the US ;)

Yes. The way Anna Torv took on the mannerisms and the tone of voice from Nimoy/Bell was nothing short of incredible. She almost managed to partly alter her features. Amazing indeed.
And John Noble can be two very different people as Walter and Walternate - I don't see an actor doing a double role, I see two different persons. Again, amazing.

I would love to see them become allies, if not friends, only to have that relationship strained when Peter is eventually remembered.

From some indiscretions circulating around the net, Peter will do more than just be remembered, because the actor is still on the cast list... We'll see how they work him in the new scenario.

As for watching in... er... real time, or slightly delayed, yes, it will be great so soon after seeing this excepional season, but the downside of it will be the weekly wait between episodes.
**sigh**
We can't have it both ways.... :-)

They never show Charlie's spiders or any kind of spiders that I recall in season 3. They do have an episode that deals with beetles though. There is plenty of other gross stuff though without bugs :)

Glad you enjoyed Brown Betty; it got mixed but positive reviews but I never can tell if someone's going to love it or hate it!

The coffee shortage in the alternative universe is just one of the differences between over there and over here; they have different environmental problems (I forget what was all said at the end of s2 so I'm being vague and trying not to spoil) and that's one of the major fall-outs from them.

And you will see more from Tippy in season three ;)

Thanks for the info about the bugs! All kinds of things bother me (the exploding head in an episode we watching last night, yikes!) but he's only bothered by the creepy crawlies LOL

I expected to hate Brown Betty (I can't think of a musical episode of any other series I enjoyed, because it seems so forced) but I thought it was poignant and delightful. I loved the plot, the 40's/modern mix, and that everyone sounded as though they were actually singing, and singing on set - not being piped in from elsewhere (I'm looking at you Glee).

We're calling AU Tippy Toppy LOL I really like him.
