They’ve Got A Secret in ten pictures.

I loved the set I did for DNAMS, so of course I hate this one. This is a rarely watched episode for me, but unlike TGIFA, making this picspam did not make me want to change that. Usually I have way too many pictures to choose from; this time I struggled to find ten compelling images. The plot may be decent (and it's certainly a pivotal episode, with Talyn's conception, and our first knowledge of Jothee and Lo'Laan) but visually I find it incredibly boring. Farscape did a lot of bottle episodes, but usually Moya is still beautiful, the lighting and shot composition are good, the characters look interesting...I don't know what was going on here.

But I've learned that people have extremely varied taste when it comes to graphics, so maybe someone will like it :-)

A note on how I do these: I load the episode into VideoStudio and scroll through it several times. Sometimes I will have specific scenes in mind before I begin, but I cap anything that catches my eye. Then I sort through the caps and try to find images that are both visually striking and which hopefully convey something meaningful about the plot or character. Often a cap I thought would be perfect turns out horrible once edited and resized, and "action" caps (such as D'Argo falling into space in this episode) are usually too blurry and/or dark to work with. Or a scene that was vital to the episode seems meaningless when reduced to a single frame.

Once I've edited all the workable caps I weed through them, placing them in "yes" and "no" folders until there are only 10 in "yes". And then I share them with you =D

The colours on the last one are stunning! Love the expressions of both J and A in the 1st one and A's expression in the second last is great! Great job as usual even though as you say the ep was not one of the most inspiring for you! I didn't mind it too much...

Thank you :)

I should really do a full rewatch - I haven't since I started to love D'Argo. I really loathed him my first dozen or so times through the series, so episodes like this were a total chore ;) But maybe now I will have more of an appreciation of them...

Yeah, took me a while too to like D'Argo but when he died I was devastated and I must say I positively love him now...we had the rewatch of this ep with FSland only a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it!

When he died we did a "Dead D'Argo Dance" LOL I've only seen PKW the once so I'm sure that if I rewatched it I would cry now, but at the time I was still firmly entrenched in my hate and could only laugh.

What changed my mind was this incredible thread on Terra Firma: http://terrafirmascapers.com/index.php/topic,30392.0.html

The OP was a big D'Argo fan who had such a viscerally negative reaction to the character in Mental As Anything that I found myself first playing devil's advocate, and then genuinely defending the guy. Eventually through fic and other discussions I grew to love him. I still think he tends to be a self-absorbed misogynist bully, and hyper-rage as an excuse pushes all of my buttons, but then all the characters have massive personality flaws, and that's why I love them. Why should D'Argo be any different? ;)

I agree with you there -I know a few of those in real life! - but what I love about him is his soft side, which totally redeems him in my eyes...in spite of his bullyism and rage I think he is probably the most fragile of our main characters and one that hurts and loves deeply.

The main reason I fell in love with FS is that there are so many dychotomies in all of the characters...most of them are alien, but oh so human!

Same here - I was letting my feelings for my father taint my view of the character. It was natural, some of the things D'Argo said and done are identical to things I've been on the receiving end of...but even so, D'Argo's worst days are more comparable to my dad's best, and even my dad has great qualities and I love him. So I had to completely disentangle them in my mind, and once I did that, I found myself feeling softer towards both of them...

And it made reading/writing smut with D'Argo involved possible, which in turn made me like his relationship with Chiana more, which made me like him more...a nice, positive circle :)

Writing D'Argo in any context actually helped the most. I strive to be objective and fair and to portray the characters as the others see them, or as they're meant to be, whatever my personal feelings. I couldn't vilify him, so I had to understand him instead, and look at the world through his eyes.
