Drift
Moya arches over and around the bath, burnished skin and long, strong bones; and Aeryn allows herself to surface, to breathe with the Leviathan. To believe, if only for a microt, that her child will live longer than Talyn.
Listen to me. Whatever happens, we go together. We keep the baby.
Listen to me.
Listen.
John's words had been meant for Pilot, for Moya, but Aeryn had clung to them during the dark monens of her disconnect, crafting them into a curse when haunted by his smile, a prayer when the thought of his touch pushed her hand between her thighs. Strength when she looked in the mirror and her mother looked back, restraint when she would have given anything for a little pill, a little blood, to signal the end of this intolerable limbo.
Whatever happens, we keep the baby.
Aeryn pulls herself from the bath and her clothes, black but for the threadbare Calvins, over damp skin. We go together, John had said, but he's already gone. Dead on Talyn, gutted on Moya in ways she doesn't understand and he won't explain.
Sometimes Aeryn believes the loss of John Crichton, teacher, is worse than the loss of John Crichton, lover, John Crichton, friend.

Date: 2012-04-18 05:18 pm (UTC)Lovely, lovely story: you have a unique way of turning words into feelings and crafting multi-layered images...
And a *hell yeah!* to v_dog for encouraging you ;-)

Date: 2012-04-18 05:25 pm (UTC)I've been meaning to message you - I should have the opportunity to read your B5 musings next week and am very much looking forward to them. I'm up to episode 11 myself, and while I'm not loving it yet, I'm more positive about it at this stage than I was about shows like DS9, Fringe, and even Farscape, so that bodes well :)
Also, icon love! Isn't it a beauty?

Date: 2012-04-18 08:22 pm (UTC)Season 1 can be appreciated only in retrospect, because it contains so many seeds of the future. By pure chance, when it aired here for the first time, the network choose to skip it entirely, so I started watching when it was already in the thick of events. So I understand how you might not be thrilled about it, but I can promise you that if you keep up... the faith :-) it will be a rewarding journey.
See on the rewatch, then!
And *yay!* on the icon GMTA! :-)

Date: 2012-04-18 05:38 pm (UTC)Anyway this is a lovely story. Few words but lots of content. I just love the way you play with words but in a completely non-pretentious way. My favorite is this sentence:
Strength when she looked in the mirror and her mother looked back, restraint when she would have given anything for a little pill, a little blood, to signal the end of this intolerable limbo.
Just lovely!
Good god it's been so long that I don't even seem to know how to comment on fics anymore o_O so sorry if this is a bit vague. It's an impressive short story anyway and makes me wish I could still write!
(Also omg, I find it oddly eerie yet really flattering that you guys are both using that same Aeryn icon by me :P I'll just join the b&w fest, but with another icon!)

Date: 2012-04-21 06:50 am (UTC)I'm sorry to hear you're not writing anymore - I quite liked the pieces I have read. But maybe it's just a dry spell, while all your creative genius is focused on your gorgeous graphics ;)

Date: 2012-04-24 07:37 pm (UTC)Anyway luckily I happened to see it now :) I'm glad if my fb was sufficient, I just don't know, I feel so out of touch with the whole fic scene. And I'm glad you liked the ones you read from me, but I do think I'm way better at icons than at fics. I love coming up with plots, but it isn't easy to put them into words, especially in English, everything that might have been cool about the original gets lost and there's no point really :/ But maybe you're right, maybe it will start inspiring me one day again. I hope so! :)

Date: 2012-04-25 01:00 pm (UTC)They've been terrible lately, haven't they? I get some notifications, and other comments I only see when I visit my inbox.
I'm glad if my fb was sufficient
ANY feedback is sufficient. Truly, just a "I liked this" or "good story" makes my day. Any further level of detail is fantastic, and makes me smile forever =D But just knowing people are reading it and enjoying it is enough, and very much appreciated.
I do think your greatest creative strength (that I've seen) is in icons - you're a genius! - but I still thought your stories were good, and there can never been too many Farscape fanfics ;) So if you're ever moved to write anything else, I'll be waiting to read it :)
With the translation problem, maybe try a new story, and write it in English? You're so fluent in comments, it might be worth a try. No need to post and share if you're not comfortable with it, but it could be a good way to practice.
